Supporting talent developing in the film industry by offering the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts a Microfilm Fund.

  • To further our mission of helping our community through a wide variety of initiatives, we launched the AR Charitable Foundation Microfilm Prize 2024/25, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Academic of Performing Arts (HKAPA).

  • This prize combines our goal to promote social harmony and ignite youth’s desire to express themselves and reflect on social concerns. It aims to provide people of the next generation with the means to engage with our community in a creative manner.

The initiative broadly aims to promote three themes: harmonious society, social cohesion and inclusion and building a community of care and trust. These themes not only reflect our vision; they also serve as inspiration for our young creators.

  • Members from our Foundation, including Mr Edwin Chan and Ms Bianca Ma, attended a script pitch session in December 2024. The session, led by HKAPA’s professional instructors, was met with great success, as several student teams came forward with script proposals and pitched their ideas.

The original initiative called for funding one documentary and one microfilm for a total grant of $80,000. Due to the students’ enthusiasm for creativity and insight into how contemporary social issues can be transformed into excellent microfilm material, we decided to fund two microfilms, bringing our prize to a total of $100,000!

The initiative is now well underway. We look forward to the premiere of two microfilms by the end of 2025.
